So not much to report specifically for the last fortnight. I’ve been mostly committed to refining a lot of the pre-production, furthering my learning with Unity and Blender, and preparing a lot of the social aspects for the end of the month (which I hope I can accomplish on time…).
I’m definitely feeling more and more comfortable with the programs I’m working with, which is excellent! I look forward to jumping into them properly once the social set-up is complete~
Well that was a short one! Till next time, all the best~!
Soo the past month let’s see. I’ve mostly been doing some training in Unity and Blender for personal projects, and doing work preparing meta-game and pre-release social work for T.H.E. game. A lot of social stuff is aiming for release at the end of the month so I’ve got a number of things to prepare. Because of the nature of the game, these are all hush hush secret stuff you’ll have to figure out yourself, but I’ll be putting up links to all of these at the end of the month! Yay! Progress! As for the personal projects; I’ve been playing a lot of VRChat lately because it’s hilarious and wonderful with the Oculus (as long as you stay away from the toxicity) and I’ve been doing some modelling and unity work for it (just simple avatar stuff, but everything is experience)! Below is a screenshot of my Bill Cipher (from Gravity Falls) test model. It needs to be re-weighted, shape keys for the eye, and some custom animations, but I’m pretty happy with it for something I was just working on on the side~
ALSO! So remember ages ago I did a super short animation bit for a reanimate collab? It’s out now! Check it out at the link below! It’s a hilarious and wonderful blend of so many different art styles, and I was so happy to be a part of it! Link: https://vimeo.com/252091266
Well that’s that! Till next time, all the best~!
Happy New Year 2018~!
Nothing like ringing in the new year by being a couple of days late for this post, but despite originally being on time a last-minute call-in for work messed up my schedule over the past few days. But fear not, I am still here~!
The last post was before Christmas, so I hope everyone has been wonderful! I’ve been hard at work, as well as enjoying a little time to myself. I spent a few weeks solidly working on a personal project (a map-mod for a game called Jedi Academy as a gift for my brother) which was both exhausting and amazing. Just for fun, I’ll drop a screen-shot at the bottom. If I’m bothered, I’ll also set-up a download link over at jkhub.org where all the fun Jedi Academy stuff hangs out.
Since then, I’ve jumped right back into work for T.H.E. game, grinding through the pre-production. Sticking hard to my schedule, I’ve managed to complete my base story structure on time! I now have a giant pile of notes and documents detailing the complicated story paths for the game. From here, I hope to finish some of the additional work for the game, get the rest of the concept art finished up, and begin work on a sample engine with Unity!
I’m also still practicing with some 3D modelling, including texturing and rigging! Maybe next post I’ll have some cool shots.
Oooh so many exciting things! I’m also still going to be working on my card games and the graphic novel this year. T.H.E. game takes priority, but I like working on everything!
2018, year of grinding to work hard. 2019, year of releases and success! Let’s do this!
Till next time, all the best!
Sorry I’ve been so busy getting ready for Christmas lately! Work-wise I’ve mostly been writing with occasional drawing, but my time is mostly consumed by various Christmas preparations. As such, nothing really to show or talk about this time round!
I will also most-likely be skipping next post (Jan 1st) because the next week for me is still more non-work-work, and I am not sure yet how available I shall be immediately in the new year. We’ll see!
Regardless, see you all next year, have a wonderful time, and all the best~!
Been quite hard at work lately, lots of 3D model practice, Unity practice, and heaps of writing! I think the modelling is coming along really well! I’ve added an image at the end to show some of my progress. I’ve been practicing getting ready to start making game-ready objects and I think I’m getting there! Once I’m a bit more comfortable with Unity I’ll start doing some samples and roughs! I’m very excited!
The writing is really taking shape, a handful of different characters and locations with rather complex and overlapping stories shared between them! I’m going to aim to get the base of the pre-production done before the end of the year; that means getting all the characters and their progress paths written up, a brief on all the areas, and general player progression. Hopefully some more concrete sketches as well (been doing a bundle of them as well~)!
I’m going to keep working hard, and hopefully try to post up a progress image every post now! Till next time, all the best~!
Blah I am super late sorry, I was away for a few days!
Very similar to last-time I’ve just been keeping up with trying to prepare my main project and keep working at learning 3D modelling. The story-structure for the game is taking form along with the character designs so hopefully I’ll be able to start working on the game’s mechanical structure soon and begin working up a super-early prototype in a month to a couple of months~!
Been busy with lots of random things these past couple of weeks, trying to progress with my 3D training and pre-production with T.H.E. Game. Not heaps to report, but because of the lack of unique news lately I thought I’d add a composition of some of my 3D models. They’re super rough because I’m still new to this, but compared to the poorly constructed boxes I was making a month ago I think I’ve come a long way. I’ve still got ways to go before I feel I will be game ready, but I’m getting there! Plus I need the time to refine all the pre-production fully and get more comfortable with Unity. Still lots of learning ahead of me!
Till next time, all the best~!
Not too much new stuff these past two weeks, just a whole ‘lotta practicing some skills, learning some new stuff, and doing pre-production. Been busy with life interfering a lot as well, but still pushing on with the projects!
Gotta keep working hard, till next time all the best~
Late again! Though I was away for a bit and came back to world of busy.
Since the last post, nothing really new unfortunately because I spent most of that time away on my little holiday! Went to hang out in New Zealand with some friends to catch the end of the snow season, was an amazing time!
With that behind me now and October looking pretty open for me, it’s time to cram into this new project and continue the Unity migration! Don’t think I mentioned it last time but I’ve started learning 3D modelling as part of my Unity migration and for the new project (which I refer to as T.H.E. Game); it’s been incredibly enjoyable and while I am still a bit slow at making simple objects, I love the process, the problem solving to get the best form with minimal work and detail, and the end results are constantly improving!
I look forward to working hard this coming month! Till next time, all the best!
Whoa I’m late! Sorry, I’m in the middle of a bit of a holiday!
So aside from taking some time off, I’ve been trying to sort some things out. Over the past month, I’ve been practicing Unity work, doing tiny little silly projects and online courses. I’ve also been trying to work out my main line of projects that I want to work on, altering the pre-production for the new platform and giving them more depth. I’ve come to a point where I realise I want to commit a more serious amount of time to these works while I train myself up properly.
So I had an idea! Over the next 6-12 months, I’ll be working on a little experimental game. Something new. This gives me a chance to rest a bit on the big projects and practice jumping into a whole new idea. Separate from the larger story of my main projects, this will just be a stand-alone fun idea to jump into a new platform. It’ll allow me to make mistakes and grow before I commit to a larger and more serious story that I want to do right and professionally.
I’ll be updating about the progress of the project exactly the same as before, but this is something different from what I was working on over the past 2 years; it’s a little odd and a I’ll have to pick up some new skills to achieve it. But it is definitely not outside my grasp, and when I finish I’ll be in a place to chase my dream works.
(also completing a project like this will tick off a little game-design bucket list item hehehe~)
This game involves a lot of secrecy, but I’ll share as much as I can without spoiling, as usual~ As for the coming month, I’ll continue to learn and develop after my little trip (which I will return from to attend OzComicon).
Till next time, all the best!
